WOMEN'S SOCCER: Number 13 Baker to Host Our Lady of the Lake in NAIA Opening Round

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The Baker University women’s soccer team earned the number 13 seed and will host Our Lade of the Lake (Texas) this Saturday in the Opening Round of the NAIA National Championship Tournament, announced on Monday. Time of the event is TBA.


The 14-3-3 Wildcats will host the 17-2-1 Saints in the Opening Round, where the winner will advance to the NAIA Final site to compete on in the Second Round at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Alabama on November 28-29.

The Wildcats are riding a 12-match unbeaten streak and haven’t lost since Sept. 21, while OLLU is also riding an unbeaten streak of their own at 14. The last loss for the Saints came on Sept. 11 against St. Thomas (Florida).

The Saints went a perfect 9-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference this season and captured its fourth-straight conference tournament championship on Nov. 11 on penalty kicks beating St. Thomas.

The Wildcats finished in second place in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with its record of, 9-1-2.

This marks the 5th appearance for Baker in the NAIA National Championship tournament, as the Wildcats boast a 7-3-1 record in the event and last appeared in 2015. This is OLLU’s fourth-ever appearance, they are 0-2-1.

OLLU played in the NAIA Opening Round last season at Kansas Wesleyan and tied the match at 1-1 after two overtimes, eventually losing in PK’s to the Coyotes, 5-4.

Baker defeated Viterbo (Wisc.) in the NAIA Opening Round at home in 2015, 1-0, and then fell to eventual national champion Spring Arbor (Mich.), 3-0, in the NAIA Second Round.

OLLU ranks number 2 in the NAIA in total shut outs with 16 this season and has outscored its opponents, 67-12.

Baker has outscored its opponents, 53-22, this season and features the two-time defending Heart of America Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Krista Hooper.

She is joined by six other teammates who earned All-Conference honors this season, including the Heart Freshman of the Year, Jenna Lattimer.
