BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The number 12 ranked Baker University women’s soccer team fell in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals after a thrilling two overtime match that ended in penalty kicks in which (RV) MidAmerica Nazarene won, 7-6, Tuesday night inside Liston Stadium. The match entered PK’s after a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.
The Pioneers will now travel to Atchison, Kansas on Friday night to face number 1 Benedictine in the Heart championship match.
Kady Dieringer scored first for the Wildcats in the 18th minute, off of an assist from Katie Hibbeler. The Wildcats were then able to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Baker had six shots in the first half, four on goal, compared to MNU’s two shots. The Wildcats outshot the Pioneers after two halves 12-5.
MNU scored the equalizer in the 60th minute, when Hannah Benedict’s goal tied the match at 1-1, where it stayed until the end of regulation.
Krista Hooper had three shots on goal for the Wildcats, while tying with Megan Johnson for the team lead with four shots.
The overtime periods were a defensive battle, as only two shots were taken by MNU and one by Baker in the 20 extra minutes.
After the second overtime period, the match went to penalty kicks, where the Pioneers outdueled the Wildcats 7-6 on eight attempts each.
The Wildcats are now 14-3-3 on the season, and will wait for an at-large bid for the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
