Despite what the polls and pundits had been saying about the presidential election this year, Donald J.Trump will be the 45th President of the United States.
There was three states that had not been declared one way or the other. Michigan and Arizona were leading for Trump and New Hampshire, which all night long was going back and forth; was leading for Clinton, with less then five percent difference between the two candidates in each state.Before those three states are counted in either column, Trump has 279 electoral votes to Clinton's 228.
As the night moved into Wednesday, Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman, took the stage at Clinton's election night headquarters at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center early Wednesday morning to tell the supporters in attendance, that Clinton would not be addressing the crowd "until tomorrow." He told the crowd, "Everybody should go home," because there was several states that were to close to call.
A few minutes later, Vice-President elect Mike Pence took the stage at the New York Hilton in Midtown Manhattan, Calling the evening an historic night, Pence said the American people have spoken, "and they have elected their new champion." He told a crowd of enthusiastic supporters that he and his family were honored to serve as the next Vice-President. Then he introduced President-elect Trump, who took the stage saying he ad just got off the phone, with Clinton, who had called him to concede. During his speech,Trump said, "Now it is time to bind the wounds of differences. It's time to come together with those that did not support us and unify as one great country." He continued by saying that, "the forgotten men and women of our country, will be forgotten no more. We will finally take care of our great veterans." In keeping with his campaign theme of Make America Great Again, he said, "America will no longer settle for anything less than the very best. We must reclaim our countries destiny."
When Clinton did deliver her concession speech Wednesday morning, she said, " Last night I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country.
I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans. This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for, and I'm sorry we did not win this election for the values we share and the vision we hold for our country."
