WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Number 13 BU Opens Heart Player with 74-70 Road Win at Clarke

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The number 13 ranked Baker University women’s basketball team opened up Heart of America Athletic Conference play on Saturday, as they traveled to Clarke University and defeated the Crusaders, 74-70, to move to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Heart action.

Clarke is now 3-1 overall and fell in its first-ever Heart of America Athletic Conference game.

The Wildcats stormed out to a 22-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and then outscored Clarke, 14-13, in the third quarter to take a 36-22 lead into the break.

But the Crusaders offense surged in the second half outscoring BU, 27-16, in the third quarter, before the Wildcats held them off in the fourth.

Caitlin Modesett had a huge game for the Wildcats with 28 points and finished as the ‘Cats only double-digit scorer. She shot 10-of-19 from the field.

The junior knocked down three, three-point field goals and collectively Baker nailed three from behind the arc.

The Wildcats turned the ball over 28 times and caused 19 Clarke turnovers as well.

Baker outrebounded the Crusaders, 44-29, and Sydnie Hanson had a team-high eight boards, while Mackenzie Cook added six.

BU held Clarke to 44-percent shooting and just 4-of-13 from three-point range for a 30.8-percent clip.

The Wildcats were nearly perfect from the free-throw line shooting 15-of-18 and had 13 assists as a squad.

The ‘Cats will next hit the road this Wednesday, Nov. 16 to face number 15 ranked Central Methodist at 5:30 p.m. in Fayette, Missouri.
