This paste week the Baldwin City Public Works Department spent a few hours preparing the fountain at Eighth and High in downtown Baldwin City for winter. During warm weather months the fountain is clean every couple of weeks. However, with cold weather coming on, it is shut down cleaned and wrapped so that it doesn't freeze and break.

So what happens to all that change that gets thrown into the fountain? According to public works, they clean the coins out, and throw them into a coffee can, before taking them to the girls in city hall.
Over at city hall, Melissa said that all the change was given to the Baldwin City Community Emergency Fund, to help the fund assist those that need help with their utility bills.
