BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The number 2 ranked Baker University football team will host number 15 ranked Sterling next Saturday, November 19 inside Liston Stadium in the First Round of the NAIA-Football Championship Series (FCS). Game time will be announced on Monday.
The 11-0 Wildcats will host the 8-2 Warriors who have won six-straight games to end the regular season and tied for second-place in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference standings at 7-2.
These two teams last met in the First Round of the NAIA FCS Playoffs in 2013 inside Liston Stadium on November 23, 2013.
Baker won that game, 10-7, on a Clarence Clark 18-yard field goal as time ran out in the 4th quarter. Baker held Sterling to just 196 yards total yards. BU is 12-1 all-time against Sterling.
The Wildcats are coming off its first-ever 11-0 perfect regular season and captured its third Heart of America Athletic Conference title in four years on Saturday, as they defeated Evangel, 46-13, for its 17th straight win over a Heart opponent.
Baker ranks number 1 in the NAIA in total passing yards with 4,198 and Logan Brettell has thrown for a school record 3,839 yards this season which also ranks number 1 in the country.
Darrain Winston is the nations leader in interceptions with nine and Clarence Clark leads the NAIA in total scoring as a kicker with 92 points.
Sterling’s offense ranks number 4 in the NAIA in points scored per game at 51.4 and is number 6 in the NAIA in passing offense with 3,386. The Warriors also feature the NAIA’s top wide receiver, TJ Brown.
Brown ranks number 1 in the country in receptions with 85 and receiving yards with 1,498. He is the nations leader in all-purpose yards with 2,435.
