BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The Baker University volleyball team finished the regular season Tuesday with a loss to Missouri Valley College in five sets (19-25, 25-19, 13-25, 25-20, 15-10) on Senior Night.
The loss for the Wildcats came despite winning two sets over the Vikings by double digits. The Wildcats won the first set 25-15, and set three 25-13.
Before the match, the Wildcats honored Haleigh Offield and Elizabeth Arnold for senior night.
Both were standouts for the Wildcats in the match, as Offield led the team in blocks with eight, while Arnold trailed just behind with five.
The first two set losses for Baker came relatively close as Missouri Valley took set two 25-19, and won set four 25-20.
The Vikings came out to a big early lead in the fifth set, going up 4-1, then stretching the lead to 9-4. The Wildcats were able to pull to as close 11-9, before the Vikings put the match away with a 6-1 run.
The Wildcats looked dominant at points in the match, closing out the first set on a 7-1 run, and running away in the third taking 10 of the final 11 points in the set.
Olivia Brees led the team in kills with 11, while Gabriella Miller was the other Wildcats in double digits with 10.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 11-19 overall, and just below .500 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play at 6-7.
The Wildcats will wait to see who it plays in the upcoming conference tournament, as the conference has yet to announce the tournament bracket.
