WOMEN'S SOCCER: Kady Dieringer's OT Goal Lifts Number 13 Baker Past OLLU, 1-0

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – For the second-straight season, the number 13 Baker University women’s soccer team advanced to the second round of the NAIA National Championship Tournament and will compete at the final site in Orange Beach, Alabama next week, after its overtime victory over Our Lady of the Lake University, 1-0.

Kady Dieringer hit the game-winning goal in just the second minute of the first overtime period.

At halftime, the Wildcats held a huge advantage in shots over OLLU with 11 to the Saints’ four.

Kady Dieringer and Keeley Atkin led the charge with three shots each. Even with the Wildcats’ aggressive first-half offense, the half ended in a scoreless tie.

The second half was even more of a challenge for Our Lady of the Lake, as the Wildcats poured on 13 more shots, while sending just four shots Baker’s way.

Krista Hooper ended regulation with seven shots, five on goal. That was part of the Wildcats’ 24 shots in the first 90:00, but Saints’ goalie Gabriela Lopez made 17 saves in regulation to keep the game tied at 0-0.

The Wildcats had control of the ball for virtually all of the overtime period, as Katie Hibbeler first missed a shot for the Wildcats, but Dieringer’s shot just 43 seconds later sealed the game for the Wildcats.

Baker improves to 15-3-3 on the year, while OLLU ends its season, 17-3-1. The Wildcats will take with them to Orange Beach, Alabama a 13-match unbeaten streak. Baker is now 8-3-1 all-time in the NAIA National Tournament.

BU will now play on Monday, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m. at the Orange Beach SportsPlex against number 4 William Carey (Miss.).
