BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – For the fourth-straight season, the number 11 Baker University men’s soccer team competed in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round, but just came up short for its quest to the NAIA Final Site, as they fell to Midland University, 2-0, on Saturday evening.

The Wildcats outshot the Warriors in the first half, 4-3, but the Warriors’ Ali Sodal was able to send one past goalkeeper Nick Riggle in the 38th minute, putting the Wildcats down 1-0 at halftime. The goal was Sodal’s 24th of the season.
The two shots on goal in the first half for the Wildcats came from Blake Levine and Matt Hamm.
Despite the physical matchup, both teams had a relatively clean half, with six fouls on Baker and five on Midland. The Warriors edged the Wildcats in corner kicks 2-1 in the half.
Baker had four shots on goal in the first 22:00 of the second period, but all were stopped by Midland goalkeeper, Shazz Heale. He had seven saves on the night. The Wildcats were shut out for just the second time this season.
The Warriors were able to tack on an extra goal in the 84th minute, scored by Robert Wiseman.
Steeve Pouna led Baker in shots with four, while Matt Hamm and Levine added two apiece.
Baker ends its season, 13-5-2, while Midland advances to the Final Site in Delray Beach, Florida with its record of 17-3-1.
