WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Number 15 CMU Edges Number 13 Baker, 69-66

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The number 13 ranked Baker University women’s basketball team used a furious second half come back to cut into the number 15 ranked Central Methodist’s lead, but just came up short, as the Wildcats fell at CMU, 69-66, on Wednesday night.

Baker trailed at the half, 40-21, then outscored CMU, 21-13, in the third quarter and 24-16, in the 4th quarter before falling by three points.

Senior Kelsey Larson led the way with 19 points and had an open look at a three-point shot as time expired, but just missed off the mark, giving CMU its first conference win of the season.

Baker fell to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in Heart play, while the Eagles improved to 3-1 as well and 1-1 in conference action.

Sydney Buchel and Courtney Ream each scored in double figures for the ‘Cats, as Buchel had 13 and Ream scored 11.

CMU gained its large lead in the second quarter when it outscored Baker, 21-3, in the second quarter.

Baker caused 22 Eagle turnovers and tied them in rebounding, 31-31. JoAnn Lira led the way in assists with five and Mackenzie Cook had a team-high nine rebounds.

The Wildcats shot 42.4-percent from the field, while holding Central Methodist to 43.4-percent shooting.

Baker will play inside the Collins Center for the first time this season, this Saturday, November 19 at 2 p.m., as they host William Penn.
