KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The Number 22 ranked Baker University women’s basketball team qualified for its third-straight appearance in the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship tournament, announced on Wednesday evening and the Wildcats will take on Columbia College (Mo.) on Wednesday, Mar. 16 at 5:45 p.m. inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence, Missouri.
Baker earned the Number 6 seed and will face the Number 3 seeded Cougars who went 27-5 this season and defeated Baker earlier this season, 66-55, on Nov. 28 on the Wildcats’ home floor.
BU enters the tournament 24-8 and earned the Number. 11 at-large bid, while Columbia earned the Number 4 at-large selection.
This marks Columbia’s 12th trip to the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Tournament, while Baker has made all three of its trips under the direction of current head coach Ben Lister. This marks the second year at Columbia for head coach Jessica Keller.
Columbia was impressive against the Heart of America Athletic Conference in 2015-16 going 3-0 all on the road, with wins over MNU, 69-58 in Olathe, Kansas and at Central Methodist, 65-52 and that 66-55 win at Baker.
Baker is 1-2 all-time in the national tournament, while the Cougars are 3-11 all-time. The Cougars last appearance came in 2014.
The NAIA Network – the association’s official video streaming home – will broadcast the first 30 games leading up to the championship final on ESPN3. The video platform, powered by Stretch Internet, allows users access to live video, statistics, and social interaction on a number of devices, including mobile.
