Baker Softball Trades Wins with William Woods


FULTON, Mo. – The Baker University softball team split its road doubleheader with William Woods on Tuesday afternoon, as they defeated the Owls, 9-1 in six innings in game one, then followed that up with a 9-1 loss in game two in five innings.

Baker moves to 20-11 with the split, while William Woods now stands at 9-14.

In game one, Olivia Brees continued her dominance in her freshman season with a complete game six innings and struck out 10 batters.

Caitlin Hardgrove hit a home run and knocked in two RBI’s, while Savannah Bellem led all players with three RBI’s and Stephanie Cardona joined her for the team lead in hits with two.

Baker waited until late to put up its nine runs, as they scored three each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

In game two, William Woods jumped on Baker early with three runs in the first inning and an additional four in the third.

Teagan Louthan got the start and lasted 2.1 innings, while Madison Nedved threw an inning and Katt Cooper threw 0.2 innings.

Rachel Wheeler scored the Wildcats’ lone run and Lucy Staats went 2-for-2 with Baker’s only RBI.

The Wildcats will open up the Heart of America Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Saturday, Mar. 19, as they host No. 5 ranked Central Methodist at 1 p.m.
