BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Reigning back-to-back Heart of America Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, Olivia Brees again put together an impressive performance in game one, as Baker University split its home doubleheader with Bethany College.
Brees earned the victory in game one, with a 3-2 win, as she struck out 13 batters. There were a combined 23 struck out in that first game, as Jasmine Stewart struck out 10 batters for Bethany.
Offensively Baker had four hits with two from Lucy Staats and one apiece from Caitlin Hardgrove and Stephanie Cardona. Staats knocked in two runs, while Hardgrove had the other RBI.
In game two, both Baker and Bethany had double-digit hits in the Swedes, 19-10, win.
Baker ended the second game with 14 hits, while Bethany had 17 hits and two home runs.
All 14 hits came from the first six batters in the starting lineup for Baker. Hardgove went 3-for-4 in game two, as did Rachel Wheeler, while Hannah Tolliver, Allie Zahn, Cardona and Staats had two hits each.
Baker will hit the road for another tournament this weekend, as they compete at the Friends University tournament in Wichita, Kansas for five games on Mar. 4-5.
With the split, Baker moves to 10-5, while Bethany now stands at 4-10 overall.
