WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Number 2 MNU Wins Heart Title over Number 4 Baker, 53-41


BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Number 4 seeded Baker University women’s basketball team fell to Number 2 MNU, 53-41, in the championship game of the 2015-16 Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Pioneers capture an automatic bid into the 2015-16 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship, while Baker hopes to receive an at-large bid and its third-straight trip to the tournament.

A selection show will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 9 at 5 p.m. CST to announce all 32 teams that will compete in the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship. To view the selection show, please click here.

With the victory MNU moves to 27-5 overall and takes the three-game series sweep over Baker, while the Wildcats fall to 24-8.

The Wildcats entered halftime up, 24-21, but the MNU defense turned it on in the second half outscored the Wildcats, 32-17.

Courtney Hoag led Baker with 14 points off of the bench, while Kelsey Larson added 13. Three-time Heart Defensive Player of the Year Macy Wallisch had 10 points and four blocks, but just two points.

Baker leads the nation in three-point field goal percentage and held MNU to just four three-point field goals on 4-of-15 shooting.

The Wildcats also caused 13 turnovers, but struggled at the free-throw, 5-of-12. Hoag finished with seven rebounds and Larson led the way with five steals.
