Baker Baseball Splits Home Series with No. 20 Sterling

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University baseball team hosted No. 20 ranked Sterling College on Monday afternoon and split the home doubleheader, winning game one, 3-1, while falling in game two, 10-7.

In game one, Caleb Lee threw five strong innings and received the win. He allowed just three hits in those five innings of work and struck out a batter.

Offensively, Baker scored two runs in the first inning and one in the second and never looked back.

Charlie Coleman, Travis Johnson and Austin Bass all knocked in runs and Gabe Greenbaum went 2-for-3.

Wes Boehm came in to close the door on the game in the seventh inning and struck out two batters in his one inning on the mound.

In game two, Sterling scored 10 runs on 14 hits and six different Wildcats took the mound.

Baker accumulated eight hits in the game two loss, the biggest coming from Jamaal Rashad in the bottom of the seventh inning, when he hit a bases clearing triple and cut the Sterling lead by just four runs, 10-6. Sean Beal then hit a sacrifice fly to send Rashad home, but then the Warriors held Baker scoreless from that point.

The Wildcats will next take on Graceland on Wednesday, Mar. 16 at 1 p.m. at Sauder Field in the Heart season opener for Baker.
