BASEBALL: Baker Splits Four Game Series with St. Ambrose

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University baseball team split its four-game series with St. Ambrose University over the weekend inside Sauder Field.

Baker moves to 5-9 on the season, while St. Ambrose now stands at 4-4 overall.

In game one, Charlie Coleman was on fire at the plate going 3-for-3 with a triple and double and an RBI in the Wildcats’ 5-0 victory.

Seth Jones nearly threw a no-hitter, as he entered the sixth inning without allowing a hit and finished with a two-hit shutout.

Clean up hitter Travis Johnson also had a multi-hit game and the ‘Cats finished with nine hits overall.

In game two, the Fighting Bees teed off for 14 hits on 10 runs, in a 10-9 win. Justin Bye got the start and threw four innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and received the loss.

Neal Boyce, Cody Gregory and Gabe Greenbaum all had doubles in the contest and Greenbaum knocked in a team-high three RBI’s.

In game three on Sunday, Baker won, 6-5 with Caleb Lee throwing nearly a complete game, 6.1 innings and allowed just two earned runs. He received the win and Wes Boehm finished off the final two outs earning the save.

In the series finale, SAU jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and led throughout. Baker entered the bottom of the seventh inning down, 6-2, but stormed back and had the game-winning run on second base, but a diving stop by first baseman Greg Wymer off the bat of Marcus Jones ended the game.

Baker will next take on the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas for a doubleheader on Mar. 10.
