Baker Stands at Number 16 in Final Winter NAIA Learfield Directors' Cup Standings


BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After earning two individual NAIA Wrestling National Championships and the women’s basketball team putting together its greatest season in program history, Baker University finished 16th in the final winter standings of the 2015-16 Learfield Directors’ Cup standings.

Out of 172 institutions listed in the standings, Baker’s 16th place puts them third in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with 328.75 points just behind Number 13 Benedictine and Number 14 MNU.

Baker earned 90 points for its NAIA National Runner-up finish by the Baker women’s basketball team at the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship in Independence, Missouri on Mar. 22.

The Wildcats also took sixth and wrestlers Colby Crank (157-pound) and Victory Hughes (149-pound) won individual NAIA National Championships on Mar. 5 at the 2016 NAIA Wrestling National Championships in Topeka, Kansas earning Baker 72.8 points in the Learfield standings.

"I'm extremely proud of the success we have had this year,” said Baker Director of Athletics, Theresa Yetmar. “Our coaches and student-athletes work hard and expect to be elite. They continue to raise the bar for us."

Number 1 in the standings is Biola (Calif.) with 560 points.
