Maple Leaf Festival is Coming

This coming weekend is the annual Maple Leaf Festival. An annual event held since 1958. The weekend full of events gets started on Friday evening, when the carnival gets underway. Starting Friday Tenth and Ninth Streets will become one-way only streets between High and Ames. There will be paid parking available in a number of locations, including the Lighthouse Baptist Church (7th and Baker),  the Intermediate Center, a small parking lot at Ninth and Jersey and a number of other areas around town. Handicapped parking will be available on Eighth between Indiana and High.
 Street closures

• 56 hwy to 3rd Street to stage the parade from 7 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m. The parade route itself will be closed at 10 until the conclusion of the parade, which is estimated to last this year until about 1:30 p.m.
  
• High Street between Sixth to Ninth Street
• Seventh between Grove to Indiana
• Eighth Between High and Indiana
  
• Chapel between Eighth and Sixth

Early Saturday morning there will be two annual Biscuit and Gravy fundraisers.  Neither are official Maple Leaf Festival activities, but are held in conjunction with the festival.

SATURDAY ONLY EVENTS

• Parade 11:00 am

The parade route begins between Second and Third streets on High Street and continues to Sixth where it will turn and continue on to its end point at Ames (Highway 56). This years parade theme is "a Salute to Kansas."

SATURDAY and SUNDAY EVENTS

• Arts and Craft Booths open from 9:00 am-6:00 pm, Saturday and 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Sunday; downtown through 8th Street.
  
• Free Country music all day.
  
• Train rides at the historic Sante Fe Depot on West High Street are available. Baldwin to Nowhere & Train Robber Tickets available at Depot.
  
• Quilt Show
  Saturday, 9 am to 6 pm; Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm
  
• Carnival and Kids' Zone
  
• Food booths providing a variety delights including Funnel Cakes, BBQ, Turkeylegs, homemade pies, hamburgers and hotdogs.
  
• The Black Jack cabin, located in the roadside park at 2011 N 200th Road (E Hwy56) is open from 9 am-4 pm. Volunteers are on hand to provide tours.

SUNDAY ONLY EVENTS

• Gospel music Sunday Morning in the Music Tent
  
• Volkswalk 10:00 am-4:30 pm begins at the high school, no fee for the event but participants may pay a fee for a medal and lVV credit.
