Press release submitted by Tyler Price, Baker University Assistant Athletic Director

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – Under second year head coach Cody Garcia, the Baker University wrestling team will begin the 2016-17 season ranked number 15, according to the NAIA Wrestling Coaches’ Preseason Top 20 poll announced on Wednesday.

Baker received 39.5 total points in the poll. The Wildcats finished last season number 6 in the final poll.

The Wildcats are joined by two other teams from the Heart of America Athletic Conference in the Top 20 poll including number 1 Grand View and number 13 Missouri Valley.

BU had its greatest season in program history last year with two NAIA National Champions crowned, as Victor Hughes win the 149-pound title and Colby Crank won the 157-pound championship.

Hughes returns for his senior campaign, as does defending national qualifier Kyler Atwood and Tyler Dickman.

The Wildcats open up the season on November 6, as they host the annual Dan Harris Open inside the Collins Center.
