PERU, Nebraska – The number 3 ranked Baker University football team moved to a perfect 6-0 on Saturday, in its 42-21 win at number 22 ranked Peru State.
The Bobcats fell to 4-2 with the loss and Baker has now won 12-straight games against a Heart opponent, dating back to last season.
The Wildcats are now 6-2 all-time against Peru State and have won five-straight over the Bobcats.
Cornell Brown got the scoring started for Baker with two TD runs, as he ran in scores from 5 yards in the 1st quarter and a TD from 4 yards out in the 2nd quarter to give Baker a 14-0 lead.
Logan Brettell then connected with Damon Nolan on a 19-yard TD pass to put the ‘Cats up, 21-0.
Jacob Coughlin scored on a 61-yard TD to cut the Baker lead to 21-7. Brettell then connected with Quanzee Johnson for a 43-yard touchdown pass to give the ‘Cats a 28-7 lead with 9:14 to go in the 3rd quarter.
James Slika scored on a 12-yard TD pass from Travis Carnahan just before the end of the third quarter to bring the game to a 28-14 score.
Brettell then found Baker’s all-time leader in career TD receptions and career leader in receiving yards, Clarence Clark on a 44-yard TD. On the next BU possession, Brettell scored on a 5-yard TD run.
Baker accumulated 442 yards of offense, while Peru State had 340. The Bobcats ran for 239 yards, but threw for just 101.
Brettell went 33-of-45 for three TD’s and two interceptions. Nick Becker and Austin Jackson each recovered a Bobcat fumble and Akim Francis led the team in tackles with 12. Francis and Jackson each had a sack as well.
Mikeice Adams led the team with four tackles for loss, Kharon Brown also added 11 tackles.
The Wildcats are off next week and will return home on Saturday, October 15 when they host Avila.
