Heart Coaches Place Baker Men's Basketball 9th in Preseason Poll

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – According to the coaches in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, the Baker University men’s basketball team was chosen ninth in the 2016 Heart Preseason Poll, as part of Media Day on Wednesday.

The Wildcats return a majority of its squad from last season, including 12 returners and four of its top five scorers including 2015-16 Heart All-Conference performer Javeion Gray.

2015-16 Heart Freshman of the Year Clae Martin returns for the ‘Cats in his sophomore campaign, as does third leading scorer from a year ago, Taylor Johnson. Nathan Guscott and Daniel Young also return for the ‘Cats.

Two new teams join the Heart in 2016-17 to bring the total to 14 teams, those two squads include Clarke University and Mount Mercy.

The top 10 qualifiers in the regular season will qualify for the Heart Men’s Basketball Tournament, with seeds 7-10 playing first round games on Tuesday, February 28.

The championship game will be played at the highest remaining seed one week later on Tuesday, March 7.

The 80th Annual Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship will be played March 15-21 at famed Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas
City.
