Olivia Brees' No-Hitter Lifts Baker Softball to Sweep over McPherson

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Reigning Heart of America Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week Olivia Brees tossed a no-hitter in game one of a doubleheader against McPherson College for Baker University on Saturday afternoon, as the Wildcats defeated the Bulldogs, 8-0 in five innings and 5-4 in game two.

The Wildcats are now 9-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 at home. Brees and the Wildcats will next return to Cavaness Field on Tuesday, Mar. 1 to take on Bethany at 2 p.m.

Brees stuck out seven Bulldogs and allowed just two walks in the game. She becomes the first Wildcat to throw a no-hitter since Mallorie Nelson threw a perfect game on Apr. 22, 2015.

Offensively Baker had 11 hits on eight runs and Hannah Tolliver, Allie Zahn, Caitlin Hardgrove and Lucy Staats all had two hits each. Zahn knocked in a team-high four RBI’s.

In game two, Teagan Louthan threw all seven innings and received the win. She fanned eight batters and allowed just three walks.

Reigning Heart Player of the Week Stephanie Cardona went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s and had three doubles.

Ilona Miller had a 2-for-3 game and Tolliver again finished with two hits. Baker trailed 4-2 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but rallied for two runs in the sixth and a deciding run in the seventh to take home the walk off victory.
