BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker University guard Clae Martin was named the 2015-16 Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Year, announced on Monday.
The freshman out of Sydney, Australia becomes the first Wildcat named conference freshman of the year since teammate Javeion Gray earned the award in 2013-14.
Martin averaged 8.2 points per game and knocked down a team-high 65 three-point field goals to lead the team and shot 43.6-percent from three-point range. That shooting percentage placed him No. 22 in the NAIA. He started in 21 of 29 games this season.
Gray also made news on Monday, as he was named to his second-straight Heart All-Conference team, being named to the Honorable Mention All-Conference team for the second year in a row.
Baker finished up the 2015-16 season on Saturday, in a 92-66 loss at No. 11 ranked William Penn. The ‘Cats finished the season 12-17 overall and 8-14 in the Heart.
