BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The number 8 ranked Baker University women's basketball team took another step towards a Heart of America Athletic Conference outright regular season championship on Saturday, as they defeated Peru State, 97-77, inside the Collins Center.
The Wildcats are now 24-4 overall and 22-2 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play, while Peru State falls to 7-20 and 5-19 in the Heart.
Baker is still a game ahead of number 11 Benedictine in the conference standings with just two games to play. They will face Graceland this Wednesday, February 22 at 5:30 p.m. on the road then wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 25 at 12 p.m. inside the Collins Center against Grand View, which will also be Baker's Senior Day.
In Saturday's contest, the Wildcats led throughout, but Baker closed the gap to just five points in the third quarter before Baker pulled away in the fourth with a 33-18 quarter to outscore the Bobcats.
MacKenzie Cook had a career-high 23 points for Baker and grabbed seven rebounds to go along with four assists.
The Wildcats collected 15 assists on its 38 field goals. All five Wildcat starters scored in double figures on Saturday, as Cook netted 23, Jessica Zweifel had 17, Sydney Buchel scored 15, Kelsey Larson had 10 and Sydnie Hanson scored 13.
BU went 14-of-17 from the free-throw line, good for 82.4-percent and collective the 'Cats shot 55.9-percent on 38-of-68.
The Wildcats again dominated the boards, outrebounding the Bobcats, 42-28, and caused nine turnovers.
