Baldwin USD 348 School Board Learns Replacement Costs of District Office

 Baldwin City - The monthly meeting of the Baldwin USD 348 School Board was Monday February 20, 2017. During this meeting they received a report from Cynde Frick, Financial Operations Director, who said she had received an estimate from an architect of the cost of replacing with a metal building the current district offices, as well as the district shop and maintenance space now located in the 700 block of Chapel Street.  The estimate involved a hypothetical 6,500-square-foot.  The estimate was due in part because of an offer they had receive at the last Board Meeting for their current office. According to the estimate a replacement building would cost:

• Site work                        $190,000
• permits/miscellaneous    $120,000
• Total estimate:                $740,000

if built on property the district owns northwest of the high school,according to Frick. Board President Nick Harris said, that it was an ongoing process, but it will have to go out for bid so it is an equal process for all interested parties in purchasing the property should the board decide to sell. 



In Other business:

• Recognized Kyrstal Williams as the Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center Mega Volunteer.
• Recognized Alicia Thomas for donations of books for the Intermediate Centers Library.
• Recognized students who won the Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Scholars Bowl and Science Fair.
• Learned that committee has been established to study how to measure the return on the district’s investment in academic technology. Superintendent Dorathy said, that the committee should have a report finished sometime in the fall, before the board considered its annual classroom computer purchases in January 2018, however it wouldn't be ready before the board would be asked to purchase replacement I-Pads for the high school this spring. 
• Heard a report that the district is looking at three companies to update the districts website.  
• Unanimously approved proposed changes to the early childhood program at the primary center. 
• Heard from State Board of Education member Ann Mah (D-Topeka) and Senator Tom Holland (D-Baldwin City).
