BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University men’s basketball team ended a two-game skid and picked up the season sweep over Culver-Stockton on Thursday evening, as they defeated the ‘Cats, 82-74.
With the win, Baker improves to 12-11 overall and 9-10 in conference action, while Culver-Stockton falls to 1-22 and 0-19 in the Heart.
Baker was able to overcome a, 20-12, deficit in the first half, as senior guard Tyrome Parker gave the ‘Cats the lead on two made free-throws. At halftime, Baker held a 35-30 lead. BU was able to stretch its lead in the second half, leading by as many as eleven points.
Three ‘Cats scored in double figures on the night, led by Daniel Young who scored 18 points, followed by Taylor Johnson with 16, and Javeion Gray with 12.
Young shot 50-percent from the field on 6-of-12 shooting and Johnson shot 50-percent from three-point range on 3-of-6.
Baker outrebounded Culver, 39-28, led by both Taylor Johnson and Nathan Guscott, who grabbed six boards each.
Collectively Baker shot 44-percent from the field and 76-percent from the free-throw line. Both teams held onto the ball well, as each finished with just eight turnovers.
Baker’s next matchup will pin the Wildcats against (RV) Mount Mercy, on Saturday, February 4 at 2 p.m. inside the ‘Collins Center.
