Baker Baseball Splits Home Series with St. Ambrose

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The Baker University baseball team bounced back after dropping the first two games of this weekend's series against St. Ambrose, with two wins on Sunday to split the four game series.

On Saturday, St. Ambrose won 2-1 and 5-3, then Baker won, 5-4 in nine innings and 5-2 in the finale.

Baker is now 5-11 on the year, while St. Ambrose moves to 3-5 overall.

In game one, the game went scoreless for four innings until the Bees scored one run each in the 5^th and 6^th innings off of starter Lake Johnson.

The Wildcats cut the lead to 2-1 in the 6^th inning off of an RBI by Wes Summers that scored Sam Marks.

Both teams combined for just nine hits, as Baker had five and SAU had four. Jordan Brown threw the final 1.2 innings for the 'Cats and didn't allow a hit.

In game two, Baker outhit SAU, 9-7, but the Bees were able to score three runs in the Top of the 7^th inning off of Bennett White to overcome the Wildcats, 3-2, lead and won the contest, 5-3. Max Taulbee went 3-for-4 and Marcus Jones went 2-for-2.

In the third game, the Wildcats led 4-2 early with three runs in the first inning and added another in the second.

Then with the score tied up, 4-4, Baker's Cody Gregory came up and hit a single that scored Summers to give Baker the walk off win, 5-4.

In the finale, Baker put together a big fifth inning, by scoring four runs and Gage Kiesling got the start for the 'Cats and earned the win after throwing 5.2 innings while allowing just two earned runs.

Kekai Rivera-Albeso shut the door on the game with a 1.1 inning save, and allowed just one hit in his appearance.

Baker will next take on Park University at Sauder Field on Saturday, March 4 at 12 p.m.
