Press release submitted by Tyler Price, Baker University Assistant Athletic Director
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University men's basketball team won its third-straight Heart of America Athletic Conference game on Wednesday, as they defeated Evangel University, 83-81, to move to 14-11 overall and 11-10 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.
This also gives Baker the season sweep over Evangel, as they defeated the Crusaders, 64-63, back on Jan. 4 inside the Collins Center.
After a halftime score of 39-39, the Wildcats and Crusaders continued to trade baskets throughout but with the help with three double-digit scorers the 'Cats were able to muscle past Evangel.
Daniel Young nearly had a double-double with his 18 points and nine rebounds. The junior shot 7-of-9 from the field and was nearly perfect from three-point range, as he went 3-of-4 from behind the arc.
Fellow Aussie Nathan Guscott finished with 10 points and had a key block down the stretch and Taylor Johnson scored 10 points as well.
Baker outrebounded Evangel, 41-23, and had nearly as many offensive rebounds as EU had defensive rebounds. Baker finished with 13 offensive rebounds, while Evangel had 14 defensive rebounds.
The 'Cats shot 54.9-percent from the field and Evangel posted five different double-digit scorers.
BU will next take on rival number 24 Benedictine on Saturday, February 11 at 4 p.m. in Atchison, Kansas.
