BALDWIN CITY, KS – The number 8 ranked Baker University women's basketball team earned the season sweep over its rival defending NAIA National Champion (RV) MidAmerica Nazarene on Wednesday evening, as they defeated the Pioneers, 72-60, for its 10th-straight Heart of America Athletic Conference victory.
The Wildcats move to 23-4 overall and 21-2 in Heart play, while MNU falls to 16-10 and 15-8 in conference action. Baker also defeated MNU, 85-60, back on January 9.
Baker hasn't lost a game since Jan. 18 and is 15-1 in its last 16 games. Kelsey Larson lead the way with 15 points on the night, while Jessica Zweifel added 13 and Sydney Buchel nearly had a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
MacKenzie Cook tied Buchel with nine rebounds and added six points. The Wildcats shot 78.6-percent from the free-throw line on 22-of-28 and Baker outrebounded the Pioneers, 46-36.
MNU was dreadful from three-point range, going 3-of-16, good for just 18.8-percent. The 'Cats held the Pioneers to just 36.1-percent from the field.
BU outscored the Pioneers in three of the four quarters, the only quarter in which they didn't outscore their foe was the fourth, when the teams tied, 17-17.
Baker returns home this Saturday, February 18 to take on Peru State at 2 p.m.
