WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Number 4 Baker Punches Ticket to Heart Finals with Upset over No. 1 CMU



 
FAYETTE, Mo. – The No. 4 seeded Baker University women’s basketball team upset No. 1 Central Methodist, 64-59, on Saturday night in the semifinals of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament.

With the win, Baker advances to take on No. 2 MNU on Tuesday, Mar. 8 at 7 p.m. in Olathe, Kansas.

The last time Baker appeared in the Heart Conference Tournament championship, it took overtime for the Pioneers to defeat the ‘Cats, 79-72, back on Mar. 11, 2014 in Baldwin City, Kansas.

With the win, Baker moves to 24-7, while CMU falls to 26-4. Sydney Buchel had a big night for Baker with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Macy Wallish nearly turned in another double-double with her 12 points and nine rebounds.

Ericka Simpson dropped 14 points and shot 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. Baker outrebounded the Eagles, 36-21, and held them to just 1-of-11 from three-point range and 2015-16 Heart Player of the Year, DaJonee Hale shot 0-for-5 from three-point range.

Mackenzie Cook added four points and five rebounds off of the bench and Baker shot 13-of-16 for 81.3-percent from the free-throw line.
