SOFTBALL: Baker Splits Series with Rival MNU


BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After more then an hour weather delay, the Baker University softball team split its doubleheader with rival MNU on Wednesday evening at Cavaness Field, as they lost to the Pioneers, 3-1, then followed that up with a 3-1 win in game two.

Baker moved to 22-13 overall and 2-2 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play, while MNU moved to 8-4 and 1-1.

In game one, Olivia Brees was rolling early, striking out the side in the first two innings, but then MNU scored one run each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Brees finished game one with nine strikeouts. She also earned the save in game two.

The Wildcats’ lone run came in the fifth inning, when Lizzie Stover hit a home run over the left field wall. Ilona Miller and Savannah Bellem had the other hits for Baker.

In game two, Teagan Louthan earned the win after throwing six innings and allowed only six hits and one unearned run.

Hannah Tolliver went 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot and Stover went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI’s. Stephanie Cardona also went 2-for-3, as did Miller.

Baker will next travel to Graceland to take on the Yellowjackets on Saturday, Mar. 26 at 1 p.m.
