SOFTBALL: Baker Posts 4-1 Record at Friends Invitational



 
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University softball team kept its winning ways last week with a 4-1 mark at the Friends Invitational and improved its overall record to 14-6.

Baker defeated McPherson in game one, 6-2, then followed that up with a 7-4 loss to No. 6 nationally ranked Oklahoma City, 7-4, and then defeated Tabor College, 4-3 on day one.

On day two, the Wildcats took down Bacone, 5-1, and York, 7-3. Two-time defending Heart Pitcher of the Week Olivia Brees helped lead Baker to two victories and two saves last week and struck out a total of 30 batters in 25 innings pitched.

Lucy Staats led the way offensively with a 13-for-23 week with a .565 batting average. She had nine RBI’s on the week, five doubles and one triple. Her biggest hit came against No. 6 OCU, as she slammed a three-run home run against the Stars. And against Bacone she went 3-for-4 with three doubles.

The current Baker pitching staff ranks No. 6 in the NAIA in strikeouts with 114 and the offense is No. 14 in the nation in doubles with 31.

Baker will host Ottawa on Monday, Mar. 7 at 4 p.m. inside Cavaness Field.
