Habitat for Humanity is building a home for getting a Baldwin City family. The build site will be on a vacant lot near 11th and Fremont, which is about two blocks west of Baker University. All utility connection and hookup fees have been waived by the city for this construction project.
Habitat for Humanity, is a non-profit that helps those of certain income guidelines to be able to get into a home they can call their own. Offering a 25 year, 0% interest free mortgage loan that is equal to the cost of the construction. The homeowner, is required to pay the property taxes and insurance.
During the construction a total of 1800 volunteer hours to build a habitat home will be used. That figure includes 225 sweat equity hours per adult, from the new homeowners.
Volunteers are welcomed. Tuesday and Thursday volunteers are the experienced volunteers and Saturday all volunteers are welcomed. Volunteers must be at least 16. However, those 16 and 17 need to have a youth waiver.
Construction is expected to begin the last week of May 2016, with no construction on Saturday July 2 for the holiday weekend. Volunteer hours will be 8:30-3, Lunch will be provided on Saturday between noon and 1 P.M.
