BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker University men's basketball player Taylor Johnson became the first athlete from the BU men's basketball team in the history of the program to be selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's Basketball team, announced this week.
The senior was selected to the team that recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
The Dallas, Texas native is just one of 24 athletes from the entire NAIA to garner the award and is just one of two players from the Heart of America Athletic Conference, the other is Graceland's Jeremy Deemer.
Johnson has appeared in all of Baker's 25 games this season and is third on the team in three-point field goals made with 25. He is averaging 7.9 points per game this season and averages 17.1 minutes per game.
The Academic All-District teams includes student-athletes that are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of athletes honored.
The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third- team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
