Baker Women Cuts Down the Nets After Senior Day Win

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The number 8 ranked Baker University women's basketball team had a day to remember inside the Collins Center on Saturday afternoon, as they captured their 13th-straight win in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, as they defeated Grand View, 77-59, and ended the regular season as the Heart Champion on its Senior Day.

Baker ends the regular season with an overall record of 26-4 and 24-2 in the Heart and captures its second Heart Regular season title in the last four years, the last coming in 2013-14.

The Wildcats have earned an automatic bid into the 2016-17 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship which will be held March 15-21 in Billings, Montana.

Baker also earns the number 1 seed in next week's Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament.

The Wildcats will next play in the Quarterfinals of the Heart Tournament on Wednesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. Grand View falls to 14-16 overall and 11-15 in the conference.

After the game, Baker honored its impressive Senior Class, as they celebrated the careers of Sydney Buchel, MacKenzie Cook and Kelsey Larson.

Larson led all Wildcats with 14 points, while Cook added 10 and Buchel finished with nine points, four blocks and seven rebounds.

Jodi Adkins and Courtney Hoag each scored in double figures, as Adkins finished with 11 and Hoag netted 10.

Baker outscored the Vikings in all but the fourth quarter and outrebounded Grand View by 10, 39-29.

The 'Cats were nearly perfect from the free-throw line on 14-of-15 shooting and Taylor Smith finished with a game-high four assists.

This marks the fifth-straight season Baker has finished with at least 20 victories and this marks the fourth-straight season BU has qualified for the NAIA DI Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament.
