WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Number 10 Baker Rolls Past Avila, 77-46


KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The number 10 ranked Baker University women’s basketball team defeated Avila University by a final score of 77-46, on Wednesday night to capture its tenth-straight win over the Eagles.

With the win, Baker improves its overall record to 16-4, and 14-2 in the Heart. They are currently tied for first place in the conference standings with number 15 Benedictine. 
Avila falls to 6-12, and 5-11 in conference play.

The ‘Cats had two double-digit scorers on the night as Mackenzie Cook scored 19, and Jessica Zweifel scored 15 points, shooting 3-of-5 from three-point range.

A total of ten Wildcats made it into the scorer’s column on the night, giving Baker a balanced offense attack, reigning Heart Player of the Week Kelsey Larson scored six points, as did Anna Hignight, Courtney Hoag and Taylor Smith.

Baker dominated the boards all night, as they out rebounded the Eagles, 45-26. Sydney Buchel led the way grabbing nine rebounds while also recorded four blocks.

The ‘Cats were able to shut down the Eagles’ offense, as the Eagles shot 27.7-percent from the field and the ‘Cats caused 14 turnovers.

Along with shooting 43.1-percent from the field, the ‘Cats also converted on 21-of-23 free throws, good for 91.3-percent.

Baker’s next match-up will be on the road vs. (RV) William Penn on Saturday, January 28. at 12 p.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the Statesmen are 13-6 overall and 11-4 in Heart play.
