WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Number 14 Baker Hangs on for 70-61 Win over Evangel

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The number 14 ranked Baker University women’s basketball team battled conference foe Evangel University to a 70-61 victory on Wednesday evening, to move to 8-1 in conference play.

With the win, the Cats move to 10-3 overall on the season while Evangel drops to 4-8 overall and 3-6 in conference play.

The Crusaders’ lead all of the first half with their largest lead being 10 points at the 7:29 mark in the second quarter.

Senior center Allison Swanson led the team in points, going into the break with 11 and finishing the game with 18.

Sophomore guard Anna Hignight gave Baker their first lead of the game when she hit a three-point field goal at the 9:44 mark in the fourth quarter.

She led the team in scoring with 15 points, while Mackenzie Cook scored 12 points, and Sydnie Hanson netted 11.

Sydney Buchel finished the game with seven points and nine rebounds, while Mackenzie Cook scored 12 points and had seven rebounds. 

The Wildcats saved their best quarter for last, as they outscored the Crusaders, 24-14, in the final frame.

Baker shot just 39.3-percent from the field overall, but were able to hold Evangel to a low field goal percentage of 35.7.

BU shot well from the free-throw line, shooting 19-of-23 for 82.6-percent.
