Baker Men Defeats Peru State for Third Consecutive Win

PERU, Neb. – The Baker University men’s basketball team picked up a road win over Peru State on Saturday as they defeated the Bobcats 84-75 for its third-straight win.

The game was tight throughout as there were eight lead changes and six times the score was tied.

Going into the break, Baker held a slight lead over Peru State, 41-36, as senior guard Tyrome Parker led the team in scoring at halftime with 11 points.

Baker was able to capitalize on trips to the free throw as they shot an impressive 28-of-31 from the stripe for 90.3-percent to put Peru State away late.

The Bobcats only made it to the free throw line 14 times going 10-14 for 71.4-percent.

The game’s leading scorer was junior guard Tyree Peter with 17 points. Peter also grabbed 10 rebounds, giving him a double-double on the afternoon.

Freshman forward Vandy Hopson scored 13 points while also going 9-10 from the free-throw line.

Along with Parker, Peter, and Hopson, senior guard Taylor Johnson also made it into double figures, netting 10 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.

Eight Wildcats recorded an assist and the Wildcat defense held the Bobcats to just 25-percent from three-point line of 5-of-20 shooting.

With the win, Baker moves to 8-6 overall and 5-5 in conference play, while Peru State drops to 5-9 and 4-6 in Heart action.

The Cats’ will next face rival MNU tonight, Monday, January 9 at 7:30p.m. inside the Collins Center.
