MEN'S BASKETBALL: Baker Wins Second-Straight Heart Contest


BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The Baker University men’s basketball team overcame a 10- point halftime deficit to defeat the Clarke Crusaders by a score of, 68-58, on Saturday afternoon for their second-straight Heart of America Athletic Conference victory.

The ‘Cats have now won five of its last seven games and currently stand at 10-8 overall and 7-7 in conference play.

The Crusaders held Baker to just 32-percent shooting from the field, but Baker used a huge second half in which they outscored Clarke, 42-22, to capture the home win.

Daniel Young led the team in scoring with 11 and the ‘Cats were very balanced on offense, with 10 different Wildcats scoring, as Nathan Guscott and Taylor Johnson each scored nine points.

Tyree Peter led the team in rebounds with eight and Baker attempted 20 more free-throws then the Crusaders, as Baker shot 24-of-39 for 61.5-percent.

Harris Takes led the Crusaders in scoring with 21 points, shooting 8-of-13 from the field and the Crusaders outrebounded Baker, 39-31.

Both Taylor Johnson and Brock Mick made an impact on the defensive side of the ball, coming up with four steals each.

As a team, Baker was able to force 19 Crusader turnovers, compared to just 8 for the Cats.

Baker will next hit the road on Monday, January 23 to take on Grand View at 7:30 p.m.
