MEN'S BASKETBALL: Baker Clips Evangel, 64-63

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University men’s basketball team defeated Evangel 64-63 on Wednesday night inside the Collins’ Center in a thrilling match up from start to finish.

With the Wildcats trailing, 63-62, Nathan Guscott was fouled with eight seconds remaining by Evangel’s Cody Geiger.

Guscott then stepped up to the line and nailed both free-throws to give BU the 64-63 lead.

Evangel then had a good luck at a runner and a tip in at the buzzer, but the ball rolled off and the ‘Cats escaped with the one-point victory.

The Crusaders held a six-point lead over the Wildcats heading into halftime as they led 30-24.

The Cats continued to fight, staying in the game by making several key three-point shots.

They were led by junior guard CJ Bolton, who shot 4-8 from behind the three-point line and he led the team in scoring with 12.

Two other Cats were also in double figures as junior Daniel Young and senior Tyrome Parker both scored 10 points.

Sophomore guard Clae Martin knocked down two three-pointers in the first half and Baker outrebounded the Crusaders 22-16 in the first half but struggled from the field shooting only 27.6-percent.

The ‘Cats are now 7-6 overall and 4-5 in conference play, while Evangel falls to 4-8 and 2-5 in Heart action.
