We are happy to report that we at the Baldwin City Gazette now have our first syndicated column. Beginning tomorrow, we will publish the first of what will be many columns from Hawver News Company LLC of Topeka; Martin Hawver is the publisher of Hawver's Capitol Report—to learn more about this nonpartisan statewide political news service, visit the website at www.hawvernews.com.
I personally met Martin Hawver, back in the late 1980's, early 90's when I was volunteering as a lobbyist and he was a statehouse reporter for the Topeka Capital-Journal. Hawver is a good man and an excellent writer. His column is bi-partisan and equally criticizes actions of both parties. He is not afraid to call a spade a spade. If you are not familiar with Hawver and his column, At the Rail, then you may be thinking of his brother, Dennis Hawver, who ran as a Libertarian candidate for the Second Congressional seat in 2012 against Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins.
(Martin) Hawver spent 25 years working for the Topeka Capital-Journal and his wife Vickie spent 17 years at the Capital-Journal before they started Hawver News. It is my hope that you will enjoy the new weekly feature.
