Obituary: Earle Brown

Earle passed away on 11/14/2017 due to complications from throat cancer. Though Earle never smoked, he had two kidney transplants, and that weakened his immune system and made him more susceptible to other ailments.

Earle appreciated every day and was a joy to all around him. He was always cheerful and had an amazing sense of humor.

Earle graduated from Washburn University then moved to Wichita in 1980 to become a sportscaster for KWCH Channel 12. After three years with Channel 12, Brown entered the business telephone equipment industry with Tele-Systems Inc. While continuing to work part-time in the media for 14 years, including seven years for The Wichita Eagle, Brown became President of Tele-Systems.

Earle had two careers in Wichita: his first was in the sports media for 20 years and he was in the business telephone equipment industry for 20 years.

Earle had a passion for sports, especially golf and KU basketball. He was an avid KU fan as well as loving the Royals and the Chiefs. Earle also loved dancing with his wife, Steph. They met dancing and spent many years taking lessons.

He is survived by, as he always liked to joke, his three “much older” sisters, Camilla, Cathy, and Ellen as well as many nieces and nephews.

Earle has two beloved children, Reed (Abbygail) Brown, 32, who lives in Wichita and works in the aircraft industry, and Kelsey Brown, 29, a traveling nurse currently in Connecticut.

Earle also has a wonderful spouse, Stephanie Davis, and loved her many pets. He also leaves behind two step-children, Ariel Davis and Maeson Davis.

He will be greatly missed by all of us.

The gathering will be held Friday, November 17 from 5-6:30pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church a short service will follow. Graveside services will be held Monday, November 20 at 11am at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, KS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stephanie Davis Donation Account via Skyward Credit Union, 4 Cessna Boulevard, Wichita, KS 67215, for medical expenses. The family encourages everyone to attend in KU attire.
