DELRAY BEACH, Florida – The number 12 seeded Columbia College men’s soccer team upset number 5 Baker, 1-0, in the Second Round of
the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship at Seacrest Soccer Complex on Monday afternoon.
The
Wildcats end their 2017 campaign with a record of 16-5-2, while
Columbia moves onto the National Quarterfinals and will face Wayland
Baptist (Texas) on Wednesday at 10 am CST.
The Cougars attempted 19 shots on the day with six on goal, while Baker attempted seven with two on goal.
Joe Houlihan led the way with three shots, while Joah Hickel and Blake Levine took the two shots on goal.
Alberto Ciroi ended the match with five saves, while Nicolau Neto had two saves in the shutout victory.
The lone goal came from Aaron Noel in the 54th minute, as he received a free kick from Pere Adrian Servera just outside the box and sent it past Ciroi.
Columbia also defeated the Wildcats in the NAIA Second Round in the 2015 NAIA National Championship in Delray Beach, Florida.
This marked Baker’s 10th appearance in the NAIA National Championship tournament and is now 6-9-1 all-time at the event.
