Number 10 Baker Women Sweeps Heart/KCAC Challenge

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The number ten ranked Baker University women’s basketball team played the final game of the Heart/KCAC Classic on Saturday and swept the competition with its 79-55 win over the Ottawa University Braves on Saturday afternoon inside the Collins Center.

They began the Classic with an 83-76 win over University of St. Mary on Friday night, as the ‘Cats open the season, 2-0. Ottawa drops to 1-2 on the season thus far.

Baker outscored the Braves 21-9 in the second frame, holding Ottawa without a made field goal through the first eight minutes of the period. BU closed out the half with back-to-back buckets to push the lead to 43-28.

The ‘Cats continued to maintain their double-digit lead throughout the third and fourth quarters.

Senior guard Sydnie Hanson was outstanding for Baker, as she recorded 21 points and seven steals. Anna Hignight and Jodi Adkins also made it into double-digit scoring with 11 points each.

The ‘Cats shot an impressive 48.3-percent from the field while holding the Braves to just 24.5-percent. 
  
Despite being outrebounded, 40-35, Baker forced twenty Ottawa turnovers and held the Braves to one three-point basket on the evening, as they shot one-of-five from three-point land.
Daisey Ewansiha had three blocks on the night and six rebounds and Caitlin Modesett along with JoAnn Lira each scored eight.

The Wildcats will next take on Kansas Christian College on Tuesday, November 7 at 5:30 p.m. inside the Collins Center.
