JOPLIN, Mo. – No. 5 seeded Baker University baseball team ended its impressive run through the 2016 Heart of America Athletic Conference in the semifinals to Number 4 MNU, 12-7, on Sunday afternoon.
Baker ends its season with a record of 24-31. MNU opened up a 4-0 lead heading into the Bot. of the 2nd inning, then Baker added two in the bottom of the second.
After MNU took a 6-2 lead, Baker scored three more in the third and two in the fourth to take a 7-6 lead.
But the Pioneer pitching staff held Baker scoreless in the 5th through 9th innings to move onto the championship game to face number 2 CMU.
Lake Johnson got the start for Baker and threw 2.2 innings, allowing six runs. Jack Mayes through four innings allowing five earned runs and earned the loss and Austin Stendeback also through 2.1 innings of work, allowing just one earned run.
Both of Gabe Greenbaum’s hits went for extra bases, as he had a triple and double. Charlie Coleman and Wes Summers had doubles for Baker.
Summers knocked in a team-high two RBI’s, while Greenbaum, Jacks, Austin Bass and Neal Boyce all knocked in one run each.
