Baker Women Earn First, Men Take Second at BU Golf Spring Invite


SPRING HILL, Kan. – The Baker University men’s & women’s golf teams ended its regular season on Wednesday, as they hosted the Baker Spring Invitational at beautiful Sycamore Ridge Golf Course.

The women’s team took home first place, while the men’s squad finished in second. Senior Lindsey Mateer ended her illustrious regular season career with a first-place finish in her hometown of Spring Hill, Kansas with a 158 two-day score, 14 shots better than the next golfer.

Samantha Mitchell also finished as a medalist with her third-place finish. Six Wildcats finished in the Top 10, including Kaci Dillingham (6th), Bailey Gibson (7th), Bailey Rockers (9th) and Emily Pennington (10th).

The men’s team finished in second-place behind Evangel. The Wildcats finished 11 shots behind EU.

Alec Wuellner had a strong tournament with a 76 first round score and 77 second round score, to take third, while teammate Grant Grego finished fourth with a 77 and 77.

Also finishing in the Top 10 for Baker was Kyle Barbee who T-9 with a 77 and 84.

Both men’s and women’s teams will next compete at the Heart Championships. The women will compete on May 1-3 at Table Creek Golf Course in Nebraska City, Nebraska, while the men will take on the Heart championship on May 8-10 at Swope Park Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo.
