Baker Baseball Sweeps William Penn in Home Series


BALDWIN CITY, KS – The Baker University baseball team picked up a Heart of America Athletic Conference sweep on Tuesday afternoon inside Sauder Field, with a 5-4 game one win and 7-1 game two win over William Penn.

The wins vaulted Baker to 15-23 overall and 9-11 in the Heart, while William Penn fell to 18-14 overall and 9-10 in conference play.

In game one, Lake Johnson and Kekai Rivera-Albeso threw the combined seven innings.

Johnson threw five innings with six shutouts and kept the Statesmen quite in the first three innings, before giving up two runs in the fourth and fifth. Rivera-Albeso received the six-out save.

Baker put up four runs in the bottom of the 1st, with Charlie Coleman, Gabe Greenbaum, Kenny Delaquila and Austin Bass all scoring.

Coleman and Greenbaum each had two hits. Travis Johnson knocked in a game-high two RBI’s.

In game two, the Wildcats again got on top early with two runs in the first. Then they tacked on three more in the fourth and one each in the seventh and eighth innings of the nine-inning game.

Jack Mayes was impressive for the Wildcats, throwing eight innings of work, allowing just one earned run on three hits and striking out eight batters.

Bennett White threw the final inning of work and struck out one batter.

Ethan Jacks went 3-for-4, while Johnson knocked in two more runs and hit a triple. Cort Brennan, Wes Summers, Max Taulbee, Greenbaum and Coleman all contributed to the 11-hit effort.

The Wildcats will return home on Saturday, Apr. 16 and Sunday, Apr. 17 to host Peru State in a four-game set.
