SOFTBALL: Culver-Stockton Earns Sweep over the 'Cats


CANTON, Kan. – The Baker University softball team fell at Culver-Stockton on Saturday, by identical scores of 5-4 and 5-4 to move to 6-12 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference standings.

The Wildcats are now alone in ninth-place in the conference, while Culver-Stockton improved to 11-7 and in fourth-place in the Heart.

In game one, CSC won on a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning, off of Baker starter Olivia Brees.

The freshman threw 6.1 innings in the circle, striking out nine batters, while allowing six hits and four earned runs.

Cassie Burris hit a home run for Culver-Stockton and knocked in a team-high four RBI’s.

Hannah Tolliver, Caitlin Hardgrove, Lizzie Stover, Rachel Wheeler, Cari Vollenweider and Sloane Brady all had hits for Baker.

In game two, Teagan Louthan threw all six innings for Baker. The Wildats scored first in the Top of the 2nd with two runs, but Culver-Stockton responded with one run each in the first and second innings, along with two runs in the third and one final run in the fourth.

Hardgrove had a big game for the ‘Cats with a 4-for-4 game with three doubles and one run scored. Ilona Miller and Kelsey Vollenweider each had one double as well.

The Wildcats will next face Avila University on Wednesday, April 20 in Kansas City, Missouri at 2 p.m.
