Evangel Sweeps Baker in Heart Softball Doubleheader


BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Evangel University softball team added to its first-place lead in the Heart of America Athletic Conference standings with its road sweep over Baker University on Saturday, 5-2 and 5-0.

Evangel now stands at 7-1 in Heart play, tied for first-place with Grand View, while Baker falls to 4-4 in conference play tied for fourth-place with MNU.

Baker will next host Grand View on Tuesday, Apr. 5 at 2 p.m. at Cavaness Field.

In game one, Olivia Brees got the start in the circle and threw nearly a flawless game in each of the innings except the Top of the 2nd, when the freshman allowed five runs. She finished the day with 10 strikeouts.

Hannah Tolliver and Caitlin Hardgrove knocked in both runs and Tolliver went a team-high 2-for-4.

In game two, Kyra Parker shut out the Wildcats with a seven inning, three-hit complete game.

Baker received hits from Stephanie Cardona, Lizzie Stover and Kelsey Vollenweider.
