BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University baseball team continued its red-hot streak through the Heart of America Athletic Conference, as they swept Peru State in a four-game home series this weekend at Sauder Field, with wins of 7-2, 4-3, 6-5 and 10-3.
Baker is now 19-23 overall and 13-11 in the Heart standings, putting them alone in third-place in the Heart Western Division, while Peru State falls to 15-26 and 10-14 in the Heart Western standings.
The Wildcats have now won seven-straight Heart contests, as they swept William Penn at Sauder Field last Tuesday.
In game one against he Bobcats, senior Seth Jones threw another gem, as he threw a complete game seven innings and allowed just six hits with two earned runs.
Kenny Delaquila and Cort Brennan each knocked in two runs and the ‘Cats scored two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to take home the win.
In game two, Justin Bye went five strong innings for Baker and was relieved by Kekai Rivera-Albeso who threw the sixth inning and Bennett White earned the save after his seventh inning, closing the door on the Bobcats.
Ethan Jacks led the way offensively with his 2-for-3 game, which included a triple and he knocked in three of the four runs.
Game three, featured another one run victory for Baker, as they entered the Top of the 5th inning with a 6-1 lead, but starter Caleb Lee allowed four runs in the fifth inning, to bring the score to 6-5.
Relievers Austin Stendebach and Bennett White kept the game scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings and White earned his second save in two games. Lee came away with the victory.
Travis Johnson went 2-for-3, while catcher Wes Summers was a perfect 3-for-3 from the line with three RBI’s. Brennan had a triple for the ‘Cats.
In the final game, Baker’s offense exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, to put the series sweep in hand.
Neal Boyce, Cody Gregory and Summers all had doubles for Baker and Gregory, Austin Bass, Summers and Boyce all had two hits.
Jordan David threw four innings, while Jack Mays threw three scoreless innings and received the win.
Baker will next take on the University of Kansas for the second time in 2016 on Wednesday, Apr. 20 at 6 p.m. in Lawrence, Kansas.
